ZEISS 3D Automation recognized as a Top 100 company

The innovation orientation of the top management is an important success factor at ZEISS 3D Automation. Like the approx. 100 employees, it is always intensely involved in ongoing development projects. An internal wiki serves as a central platform for the exchange of ideas of the employees. In addition to this, an in-house department for research and new technologies provides input for the product development department. CEO Dr. Frank Richter firmly believes that "As a company, we can only hold our ground in the market in the long term through our own research activities".

Apart from in-house research, co-operative partnerships and strategic alliances influence the innovation strategy of the company, which was founded in 1997. The close collaboration with a large number of institutes of higher education and research institutes has the effect of promoting innovation, also through the integration of student trainees.

For example, the TEMPAR system for precision room temperature monitoring resulted from the in-house research and development: It aims at keeping temperature and humidity within the limits, in which the respective coorinate measuring machine reaches its maximum precision. The system brings the measured temperatures and humidity values together across different locations in real time. As soon as one of these values gets out of control, it warns the user. The user can access the dashboard on which all the values and evaluations are brought together at any time from anywhere. "This concept enables us to make our own contribution to intelligent networking of data and applications – on the way to the industry of the future", says Richter, evidently pleased. "Winning the TOP 100 Seal of Approval is a great way to confirm our strategy."

The above-average growth in revenue of 40 percent in comparison with the sector in the period between 2013 and 2015 also confirms the successful set-up of the company. As a result, the company plans to grow from 100 to 140 employees by the end of 2017.
compamedia GmbH has awarded the TOP 100 Seal of Approval for exceptional innovative strength and above-average innovation success to small and medium-sized companies once a year since 1993. The companies were also assessed this year by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Institute of Entrepreneurship and innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. They asked about 100 parameters in five categories of assessment: "Innovation-promoting Top Management", "Innovation Climate", "Innovative Processes and Organization", "Innovation Marketing/External Orientation" and "Innovation Success". More than 4,000 companies were interested in taking part in the TOP 100 competition this year. 366 of them applied to participate in the qualifying round.

The mentor of TOP 100, science journalist, Ranga Yogeshwar, hopes that the Top 100 will have a signal effect: "The way in which the Top 100 generate new ideas and develop ground-breaking products and services from them is remarkable in the truest sense of the word. I am pleased that the award makes these qualities apparent. Hopefully its success will encourage other companies to emulate them, because this culture of innovation will be increasingly important for all companies in future."
